Youthreach Dundalk is a thirty-place centre on Chapel Street, right in the heart of the town. The programme’s objectives are social inclusion and progression into further education and training opportunities and the labour market. For the participants, the programme aims to promote personal and social development and increased self-esteem, and independence, personal autonomy, active citizenship and a pattern of lifelong learning.
Dundalk has had a number of national award winners in metalwork and other related crafts, e.g. in 2004 they took both 1st and 3rd place in Metalwork in Ireland, in 2006, 2nd place in Ireland and in 2008 again 1st place in Ireland in the Leaving Certificate Applied. Two former students who are now in the army have completed tours of duty in Chad. Both centres have watched while their young course participants have progressed to further study.
