What is the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) Programme?
BTEI provides part-time education programmes for young people over 16 and adults. The aim is to give those who have not completed a Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) qualification an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. BTEI programmes are offered in the mornings, afternoons and evenings in a wide variety of locations throughout the LMETB area.
Who is this service for?
BTEI courses are free and available to anyone who has left full-time education but priority will be given to those with less than upper second level education. There are a limited number of places available for those in receipt of a means tested social welfare payment or a medical card or qualified adults whose partners are receiving a payment.
What programmes does this service offer?
BTEI offers courses leading to certification at QQI Levels 3, 4 and 5 and some Leaving Certificate subjects.
Examples of programmes offered:
|Leaving Certificate English, Maths, History, Art, Irish, Geography, Business.|
|Information Technology including ECDL|
|English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)|

Search for a Course
Further Education and Training or FET, offers a wide variety of life-long education options to anyone over 18. FET includes apprenticeships, traineeships, Post Leaving Cert (PLC) courses, community and adult education as well as basic literacy and numeracy services. FET courses and programmes are provided through the Education and Training Board network throughout the country as well as through other local providers including online through SOLAS’ eCollege. FET courses are provided at levels one to six on the National Qualifications Framework.
